Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

God Bless You

Pride is a deadly sin because of what it can do to you. We use the word pride to mean we are please at something, but in the true sense, pride means you think you are better than someone else. Instead of raising yourself up, it brings others down. If you are proud of a sports team or nationality, it is usually at the expense of the other team or country. Pride in and of itself is a false sense of security. It is also a form of selfishness, when you are saying you are proud to be American or gay or whatever, you really didn't do anything to "earn" that, there was no accomplishment involved, so pride is the incorrect word. Maybe thankful should be inserted instead.

This is a result of a minor mistranslation - in the Aramaic and Latin bibles, it is clear, but there is really only one word for pride in English. Pride in your own accomplishments or those of others is fine. Pride is only a sin when you begin to think of yourself as somehow elite, or better than others. The Bible says that nobody is good except God, and that nobody is righteous either - when you begin to think of yourself as such, or especially as not needing God, that's a sin. Of course, this is all complete BS made up by the church to keep the common man down.

Pride is what got Lucifer kicked out of heaven! Pride is a sin because it basically takes God off of His throne and you hop up there as if you had something to do with it. Jesus said that by ourselves we cannot do anything. It's only by the grace and mercy of Almighty God that we have everything we have, even the mere air that we breathe is a gift from Him. And to be prideful states that WE think WE did it all on our own which is an insult to God.

In almost every list Pride is considered the original or most serious sin, and the ultimate source of all other sins. It is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive to others, failing to give credit due to others, or excessive love of self (especially holding self out of proper position toward God). Dante's definition was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbour." In Jacob Bidermann's medieval miracle play, Cenodoxus, Pride is the deadliest of all the sins and leads directly to the damnation of the famed Doctor of Paris, Cenodoxus. Pride was what sparked the fall of Lucifer from Heaven, and his subsequent transformation into Satan. Vanity and Narcissism are good examples of these sins, though both imply a more empty feeling of Pride, with little to back it up. In the Divine Comedy, the penitent were forced to walk with their heads bowed while they were whipped in order to induce feelings of humility.

All sin is deadly. Not just a few, hand picked by a church.

Pride (believing that you can do anything on your own) is the same as telling God you are as powerful or more powerful than he is. The devil has this problem, and we can all read where he is ending up.

God hates pride (Proverbs 8:13). The Bible tells us that, “pride brings destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly than to live it up among the rich and famous (Proverbs 16:18-19). The Message paraphrase of Proverbs 16:5 goes on to say that, “God cannot stomach arrogance or pretense; believe me, He’ll put those upstarts in their place.”

Throughout scripture we are continuously told about the consequences of pride. Satan was cast out of heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish determination to replace God Himself as the rightful ruler of this world. But Satan will be cast down to hell in the final judgment of God. For those who rise up in defiance against God, there is nothing ahead for them but disaster, because “I will rise up against them” is the promise of the Lord. He will cut them off (Isaiah 14:22).

In our culture, pride just means feeling good about yourself. But the sin of Pride means thinking you are like a god unto yourself, forgetting that you owe everything to God.

Because pride cometh before a fall.

Pride leads men to believe they are better than other people and things, which in turn leads them to sin.

Pride is a very good thing when you are proud of your kid, husband, or other.

However pride can also be a sin in itself, not only lead to other sins.

Hope this helps. :)

Because the very basis of Christian theological ideology is the addmission of sins. Christians are humble creatures because they realize that all men are immortal souls trapped in sinful bodies. To be prideful is to deny one's own sinfulness.
