Some explanation that they'll understand and stop saying, "Well, you don't believe in hell. Why does it bother you? Maybe you're having doubts."

It's a tough one to pinpoint. I'd say that the reason has to do with listening. As soon as they pull this one out on us, discussion is closed. It's condescending and a total brushoff and lack of respect for our beliefs. Additionally, the argument itself is flawed. Do people honestly expect that such a fear can lead to genuine trust and belief?

As an analogy, if I tried to perpetuate the belief that black people are an intellectually inferior race incapable of intellectually matching white people, I'd get my *** kicked. Why? I mean people no longer accept this as true, so what do they have to get mad about? They'd be mad because it's insulting and ignorant, and they wouldn't want to risk the chance of my infecting impressionable children (or adults) with such nonsense.

I don't think that "aggravating" is the right word. I do wish, however, that they would take a look at the response I usually give regarding Ammit, and realize that the reaction that they have to that scenario is pretty much the same reaction that non-Christians have to their threats of Hell.

Maybe they're really having doubts that their hearts won't stand up to being weighed against the feather of Ma'at...

I think some christians should concentrate more on spreading Gods love, understanding and compassion rather than portraying him as some wrathful entity who dsnt accept any one who dsnt fall into this cookie cutter image of what a christian should be. God cares about your heart and soul. A true christian will show you love not not point out how hellbound you are. Maybe there wouldnt be so many "non believers" if they would leave perfectoin up to GOD

I've been condemned to Hell so many times I have a big imaginary weight strapped around my neck pulling me down to your imaginary Hell I'm so afraid your imaginary boogie man Satin will jump out and take a bite out of my butt. Your la la land of eternity is calling. I must be off now to count my monkey bones. Still looking for that missing link you know. Someone stole a mans rib bone. That might be the missing link. Now where could that have gone. BB

I believe in God, heaven and hell and I understand what you are saying. If you want somebody to be where you are you don't turn them off by condemnation speech. It is always better to attract people by example of how you live and the positive view you have. The Bible says Many will say Lord, Lord did we not heal and cast out demons in your name and He will say depart from me I never knew you. So they are walking shaky ground with condemning. The Bible also says God will have mercy on who he will have mercy on. So while their heart may be in the right place they are going about it in the wrong way.
Many non-believers say the Bible says do not judge, but the Bible makes a distinction in judging and being judgmental. We are to judge with wisdom and discernment; not judgmental in a prejudice or hateful manner.

I saw a woman on Judge Millian's People's Court last night laughing at everything. It seemed a little odd but she said the reason was the other guy was wrong. It was literally laughable. She literally laughed it off. Most people don't do that, but it seemed to work for her. Instead of getting all intense over an argument in which no one is going to change their minds: try laughing.

I am a believer in God and a disbeliever of hell. The concept of sin, hell, and satan are man made terms. Men desired to use fear as a means of controlling the masses.

Can you imagine how hard Paul, Pope Gregory, and others involved are laughing? For how many centuries have their absurdities been believed?

I actually feel sorry for people who live their lives in fear of an imaginary place.

I think it's more of christians being so self righteous. I'm sure if I was in some weird religion and I told you that when you died you were going to live up with the aliens and be raped by them daily I'm sure that would annoy you much the same.

Its their attitude. They act so superior and condescending, its aggravating. Makes me want to slap them. Threats of hell mean nothing, but that kind of attitude causes wars.

Because it's on par with a death threat. It both annoying and insulting to tell people if you don't bow down and worship my god you are going to burn.
