Wow, depends on lots of things, like how long, age, gender, attempting to work, alone, adventurousness, etc.

Those three are all very different from each other. Each is quite proud of their own culture and work very hard to maintain it, but they are quickly losing that battle. Japan led the way in that process and was followed by South Korea and now China. Taiwan was there along with Japan. Japan is the most "westernized" in the larger cities, but the rural areas of all three countries are very surreal with very little English being spoken. In Mainland China for instance, some villages don't have electricity and their residents have never seen cell phone, so how primitive do you want it? Mainland China is huge and we would have to get into regions to discuss it with any detail. Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing and Shanghai are not that different from New York or Chicago, once you get over the cultural differences. Rural Japan is very diverse as well, depending on the island and region. South Korea ranges from Cosmopolitan to primitive but is not a large country in area, so everything is a little closer together and therefore less disconnected. Have you considered any of the less developed countries? Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, India, etc.? They are all very different. Singapore is a nation/state/island and is cosmopolitan, with the highest level of English spoken in Asia. Hong Kong is very similar in that regard.

Post some more specifics and I'll be watching and answer the best I can.

Congrats on wanting to experience the rest of the world!

I have lived in all three (currently, in China). The three cultures have some similarities, but each is also unique. The cost of living in Japan is very high; South Korea is trying to catch up; China is third. However, one cannot move to China without a work visa, be a returning Chinese, or marry a Chinese. I am biased since my wife is South Korean, but I would opt, of the three, for Korea. If exact location isn't important, Thailand or The Philippines are still very cheap and have some of the "Asian culture".

The Philippines really does have great beaches and very popular for its tropical climate and beautiful palm trees at the beach. Taiwan is also nice and lots of places go and things to do. As for beaches, I'm sure there are, but I haven't really known any or been to. South Korea is actually fascinating, lots shopping (kinda like a bigger version of Hong Kong) though much more expensive. Malaysia and Singapore are close to each other, basically neighbors. Malaysia is also nice, but I've only been for there for a few days, so I can't really say much, apart from trying out Durian fruit and Durian ice cream which is somewhat new to my tastebuds. Singapore is pretty awesome, they have the popular Sentosa beach, and the clubs are cool, nightlife there is so alive. I don't really know which country to recommend you, since I don't know what are you interested in. If you want relaxation, try the Philippine beaches. If you want sight-seeing trips, Taiwan might be good. Shopping goes to South Korea, take note though, quite expensive (for my budget at least). Singapore holds the nightlife, different culture and an added bonus of newly opened casino. But if I can choose one for myself, I'd prefer Thailand for the unique experience.

I would have to suggest Tokyo, Japan...from pictures I have seen it is very beautiful...my parents visited there and loved it...they said the Japanese are very polite, respectful and very clean people...taxi cab drivers wear white gloves and wipe the cars down after each rider departs the vehicle....hotels and food were superb..! Where ever you decide..have a fun safe trip..!

None of the above...all have beautiful qualities but china will not allow you to live there unless you are on a working visa. And it's very restrictive. Japan is way too expensive... it can cost more to live there than California. Korea? Dirty and the people are not friendly. I prefer someplace more like australia or new zealand. If you are set on asia, make it southern thailand. Peaceful serene and wonderful people. I vacationed there before the sunami.... it was wonderful. I'm sure by now they would welcome newcomers.
