Science begins with no preconceptions, and attempts to verify or challenge existing ideas about the world. ID presumes to arrive at a preconceived idea of the universe, at which point further investigation is not needed. ID is therefore profoundly unscientific. It is a version of faith. Evolutionists would never be prepared to stop searching or finding out new things. ID is anti-scholarship. It is unforgiveable.

As if they have equal claims on being true?
Its very difficult to answer a question where the basic premise is so blatantly false.
Intelligent design is not science - even in America the most fundamentalist christian country in the world the supreme court made a ruling to that exact effect.
Why do we dismiss 'intelligent design' because its creationism in a cheap tuxedo - its faith based rubbish, because proponents of it misquote biologists, deliberately distort the truth and know nothing about evolution.

Because intelligent design is false. It does not explain anything (the obvious circularity problem), if it did, it would raise a whole series of much larger questions (how was the design process accomplished?), and finally there's the obvious fact that life is far too complex to have been the product of intentional design processes.
I know that last part sounds backwards to most people, but just look around you - all of the truly complex things are the product of nonintentional physical processes. Open your eyes, and ye shall see.
Oh, and on top of all of that, there's the fact that the main proponents of "intentional design" are clearly liars. Why would anyone expect a reasonable scientific finding to come out of a group of people whose goals are simply propaganda? It just doesn't work that way.

I would guess that in both instances it has to do with having put their faith in a particular explanation for the origin of life. Then the proponents of evolution have a vested interest in denying the existence of a creator God to whom they will one day have to give an account of their denial of Him while the people who believe in Intelligent Design can fall into one of two categories.
An I.D. proponent may be a Christian or a Jew or a Muslim and they would dismiss any theory that denied their understanding of the Biblical account of creation, although some people in those faiths don't see a contradiction and are willing to go along with the theory of evolution.
Or an I.D. proponent might be a secular individual who has been convinced by the burden of evidence and the statistical improbability of life evolving from inorganic matter into the millions of complex and interdependent life forms we have on earth today.

Because most evolutionists are rational people that have taken a look at the FACTS, and found that the theory of evolution best supports those facts. Proponents of ID already have a theory, and look for facts to support it. That's not science, it's idiocy - the theory was one created by bronze-age tribesmen who had absolutely no scientific knowledge by which to judge the age of the earth or the origin of complex life. It's just as likely that Prometheus made us out of clay. After all, you can't prove he didn't, can you?

Because evolution is a fact, it's been proven. All life is connected by evolution. Evolution by natural selection doesn't need a designer, all it needs is time and death. Intelligent design is an invention of religion because evolution doesn't feel right to most. They would much rather believe that humans were created out of dust and separately.

I don't know that I'm "quick" to dismiss ID. I've read quite a bit about it. As was decided in the Dover Case, it's just Creationism in a rented tux.

I'm not. I think the dearth of demonstrated irreducible complexity gives credence to the theory of evolution. In other words, if god cretaed everything by hand, we should expect to see irredcible complexity everywhere.

Because it's not science. Period. It's just religion in a costume. The arguments have no more credibility for being couched in scientific terms.

Because they have to have so much faith to believe that the evolution theory is a fact.
