if you shaved a tabby cat would its skin be stripey?

I had my tabby shaved (or rather de-matted) at the vets and he wasn't stripey on the shaved bit. The stripes grew back in, though.

I think you're just curious because tiger skin is actually stripey without the fur, but tiger is just an exception. Cats aren't like that.

I dont think so, I have a black cat his skin is white under his fur, he had a blood test a while ago and they shaved a little bit off, thats how I know, I also have a brown cat, she is also white skinned under her fur, and my white/tabby patched cat is pink under his fur, so no, the fur colour is no indication of the skin colour.

No my tabby was shaved when she was spade and her skin colour was the same all over.

I will say yes to your question with a BUT.

Darker colored striped cats will show stripes on their skin... lighter will not. The stripes show up on the legs and will be the most noticable there if they are going to show up on the skin. Just look at pictures of sphynx cats - they are naturally hairless so you can see the skin color patterns.

And a tortoiseshell would have tortoiseshell skin

and a Dalmatian would have spotty skin
