I done baby sign with my now three year old twins, I feel that it made their life less frustrating. By the time they were 7 months old they were doing simple signs. My son is behind in speech, but is really picking up on new signs at his preschool, he then teaches his sister.

I did it with my daughter and found that she was/is very curious about what things are called and her vocabulary is amazing! It also helps kids feel less frustration before they are speaking because they are still able to communicate. Not to mention if they continue to develop this they are becoming bilingual! Good for you!

THAT'S AWESOME!!!! Both my childrens speech was less than perfect. I started simple signs with them, and to this day they are now 4 & 5, and still know the signs. There is also a Channel called PBS, and there is a show called Signing time with Lea and Alex. My kids ABSOLUTELY LOVE WATCHING IT and they sign along with the show! Signing really eases some of their frustration, because instead of them getting flusterd they sign what they want!
That is AWESOME that your son is teaching your daughter. They can now communicate together!

If you have a baby between 1-6 months, then listen up!
I took a browsin' on the internet one day and I found this amazing stuff!!! Baby-Language, that ALL babies speak!! Even my aunt's baby! (I'm a teen, i have no children).
It goes like this... it only has five words.
Baby-Language:
Hunger: "Neh" (they usually extend the sound)
Discomfort: "Eh" (they kinda bark it)
Sleep: "Owhh" (sounds like a yawn, of course)
Upper Gas (Burp): "Eirh" (sounds like like a cross between "eh" and the word "ear")
Lower Gas: "Erh" (the sound is a lower sound, and greatly extended).
I found this so intersting when I found it then tried it!!!
Of course, I have to agree with the other poster, if your baby doesn't learn how to listen an interperate sounds at a young age, he/she's sense of sound won't be as swell. Also if your baby doesn't learn how to make words with his mouth (English, not Baby-ish), he/she will have problems in speech. I know a 9-year-old who can barely make the R sound.
Now, i'm no parent so don't listen to every little thing I say, that's all just my opinion.
(that baby language thing is so kool!!!!)
Me hopes me helped! =D

Have you had his hearing tested? Doing sign language usually helps toddlers with their vocabulary. My step-daughter was behind on her speech and they found out that she only had 5% hearing, and because it was not caught early it permanantly affected her speech.

Yes! I taught my son milk and it really made a difference for us. At least I know when he is crying because he wants milk now. I think it is fantastic! We are now working on More and Eat. My best friend taught her now 2 year old son and it was great for them, too.
