No you cannot get sick from being outdoors in the cold. It is a common misconception because most people get colds and the flu during winter--but that's only because people stay inside more with other people passing around germs. However, if your immune system isn't strong you may be more susceptable to catching a virus or "bug." If your son gets sick during the winter months it is more likely that he caught it from being indoors with other sick people, so make sure you wash his hands frequently and wipe down surfaces he touches often with Lysol or similar.

I just read this in the parents magazine. Its a myth you cant get a cold in cold weather. ONLY way is by rubbing a running nose and touching your mouth, or sneezing on someone if u have it etc but you cant get sick from going outside in the cold.

Doctors say "no", but I don't buy that--as I have gotten quite ill after being too cold or wet from rain, etc.
If your son is used to being outdoors in all types of weather, and you do have him covered well, I doubt that short outings will make him sick.

You can't get sick from the cold weather. You have to come in contact with someone who is sick and get the virus from them or say if the virus is on a door knob etc. Being in the fresh air is good for a person so long as they aren't overheated by having to many clothes on.

Medical evidence has proven that the cold doesn't make you more susceptable to colds and viruses; I think as long as you keep him warm and comfortable he'll be healthier and happier spending time outside. Way to go, Mom!

If you're making sure he is dressed appropriately, and not keeping him outside for long periods, then he should be fine.
The trick is since he is so young, he can't really tell you if he's fine or not, so you should exercise plenty of caution until he's older and can communicate with you better about how he's feeling.
