2 routes: the low road (escalation -- them's fighting words; I'm gonna say something even worse, they must have learned it from your parents), or the high road (closure -- that's a mean thing to say; I feel insulted; I'm not cool with it; I'm not gonna wanna hang out with you anymore if you're just gonna diss me like that).
I'd recommend the high road; depends on the ages and maturity of those involved.
