Sounds like you like your boyfriend, but he's a little bored? You should make fun of him once in a while, and combine that with compliments if he gets offended. Sounds weird, but it will add a spark to things. For straight up questions, ask him where he sees himself a year from now, in five years, in ten years? Talk about the future, the past, and right now. Go out and do things so you'll have more experiences together, and create some awesome memories. Your imagination is the most powerful thing you possess, use it!

Ok! First ask him what did he do today, or what are his plans for this weekend and about his pets if he has one or just don't sit around doing nothing maybe see a movie or go get something to eat or just play some board game or something. Maybe you guys need more confidence so you can share everything and talk freely about anything. Advice find out what kind of things he is into what are his hobbies and interest

I know this sounds lame, but having a few drinks with a guy you like is a really good ice breaker. Once your loosened up, you two won't be as shy. Don't use it all of the time, just to get things going.
Don't be afraid to show your personality. He needs to know you need to know eachother well before you can have deep conversations.
If that still doesn't work, you should probably find someone that makes you more comfortable.

When you know you are going to see him think of 5 things that you can talk about. Examples: something that happened to you at work or school that day, something you heard on the radio or saw on TV. If you are really stumped look something up on the Internet. See what stories interest him and look for more things to talk about. Pretty soon you won't have to put effort into finding things, you will just have conversations.

To start the ball rolling, just say "Oh, my friend bought a new pair of shoes yesterday"
It might sound dumb, but then at least there are things to talk about. Anything is better than sitting and not talking, in the long run it'll probably affect the relationship

Start with small talk. Something simple like school or what happened the other day. If he's really interested, he'll be pleased to carry on the conversation. But if he isn't the talking type, try going to the movies for the time being.

oh well you can talk about your day, what you learned today (not only at school, maybe you got a piece of advice from a stranger), did you see something odd today, run into an old friend, trip over a rock, find a lucky penny, see a car crash, hear an interesting rumor, hear something crazy on the news, find a new gym to work out at, did you pee funny colours, maybe you found a new friend, or got in a fight with a good friend, is there a new episode of your fave tv show on. the list is literally endless.

The beginning is always that way. Ask him questions. What does he like to do? His family, brothers sisters. Get to know each other. You guys need to develop something you have in common. Go to places together and you will eventually have things to talk about. Remember to have a life outside of your relationship so you can tell him about your day etc..Its hard in the beginning. But you will soon see that you share many things in common. Being a good listener is just as important as being a good talker. Good luck.

Is it a comfortable silence or an uncomfortable silence? I read a quote once that said you can find true friendship between two people who can be comfortably silent with each other. And I've found friendship to be very important in relationships.
