Pit Bulls do have a bad reputation of turning on you when it's least expected. You've seen the horror pictures, I'm sure, of children with skin missing due to a sudden attack from the "non-aggressive" family Pit Bull.
If you insist on getting a Pit Bull, then remember this...
1) Make sure the dog is a pure bred, it's the mixed that can turn on you in a heart beat more so than the pure bred.
2) Get this dog from a reputable breeder. Ask around, get suggestions, you don't want a dog that's been abused.
3) Talk to your local Pit Bull Rescue. Sometimes they may have what you're looking for.
4) Do NOT prod your dog to fight. This is how they become agressive and will turn on people.
5) If you rent a house or apartment, they often have the "NO PitBUlls" rule and you can get thrown out for having one. So, best to check and make sure first.
6) Treat your dog with the respect and love it deserves, bring up the puppy to be nice, and chances are you'll have a loving dog.
The price you pay can depend on the quality of the dog, if it's show quality or pet quality. Usually the pet quality will cost lower, but I have heard some people trying to stick the show quality price on a pet quality, which to me is wrong..if you're just going for a pet.
Chances are you're not getting a Pit Bull for that range, unless it's a rescue dog. And remember, these dogs can get large. I've only met one though that was aggressive, and that was because it was guarding "Mommy" it's human, or thought it was. It had a jealous streak and didn't want anyone near her that he didn't know. lol
All the others I've met though, I've met as pups and they were very sweet. If you have kids though, I'd steer clear of a Pit Bull for now.

I live in a really bad neighborhood, and a lot of people have fighting pit bulls, they sell the puppies for $70.00. They don't care for the puppies properly. A reputable breeder will probably have a little higher price to cover costs of vet bills (first vaccine, dewormer..). If you want a pit bull puppy for that price, check your local animal shelters. They have a lot of pit bulls that need homes, and they often get pit bull puppies in. Try looking on petfinder.com to find puppies in your area that need a home. Good luck on finding your puppy. Just be sure to do research on the breed if you haven't already. But they really do make great pets for the right home!!!

if you TRULY want a pit just as a pet [and they make GREAT pets] then why not look at your rescue shelter for a very young one.
Other than that the price range you are looking at, you will not be getting anything you can breed from or show.
Just please make sure you are getting a pit for all the RIGHT reasons........ours is such a softie that I really think she feels she is a lap dog.......but that's with a huge amount of effort and training on our part, plus her knowing that she is loved, safe and secure and NOT an attack dog etc.

You know, if you want a cheaper one, it is probably in the CKC registry which is a joke, or the animal's confirmation is so far from the accepted that the breeder doesn't think they will get any money for it- trying to sell it off cheap. Or there is a lot of inbreeding/ a medical condition, etc.
You get what you pay for- a cheap dog is a cheap dog (in a purebred sense)

Try on-line at petfinder.com and put in your zip code with an "expanded" or "national" search. There are so many animals that need good homes, and that is the exact price range of adopting one from one of these good shelters.
And pitbulls are a breed that shelters have MANY of! You don't need to encourage more breeding. Believe me, when you see how many are available through shelters, you'll wonder why you ever had to ask!

Go to your local shelter. They always have pit puppies for adoption.

My dog had a litter of 10... all white and cinamon, 100% purebreed rednose Amercian Pitbull... I gave all of them to good homes. I don't do business with my animals because I love them.
