You are doing it all right. Aveda products are good. Just stop using the iron completely for some time if you can. Do once a week protein treatment, if you aren't already, that is. Leave-in conditioners are great for damaged hair. You can try protein leave-in conditioner, I like Life Drops by Terax. Also, put some hair oil, not too much though, every time you shampoo, leave on for 1 hour or overnight. This helps a lot in combating dryness.

My hair dresser is also a close family friend and I always talk to her about my hair.
She tells me that really the best way to restore damaged hair is leave in conditioner or some other form of rich conditioner. It's her favorite. Wash your hair thoroughly and then while it's still wet put the conditioner in your hair and take extra care to get the tips of your hair.
Most people just focus on the roots but the damage is really at the end of your hair. Work it through really well and leave it sit for a while or just leave it in. Usually I'll put it in and then I'll wash everything else and rinse it out last.
If at all possible use hotter water to rinse out your conditioner than you used to wash your hair.

Try going to a salon for a deep conditioning treatment. They are the best. Also Cholestrol in the african american aisles works very well. I notice someone told you to try hot oil treatments. What do they know about them. No offense to anyone, but oil and water do NOT mix. Why would you want to coat your hair. If your hair is really fragile, I mean like it keeps on breaking, keep getting trims if you do not want to cut your hair. Also you might want to get it cut into a nice short style. That's all up to you. As a stylist, if their hair is so split up, I tell them to come in to get a deep conditioning treatment. Some of them will let me cut the straggles off and they start over. I hope my advice will serve you well. Paul Mitchell has a product called Awapuhi moisture mist. That may help your hair as well.

Get a hot oil treatment (a good one, not over the counter stuff. Find something at a salon or beauty store, like an avacado or olive oil hot oil treamtment) and use that. Deep condition your hair once a week. (Try buying a deep conditioner, than wet your hair, apply the conditioner, then put a shower cap on, then blow dry on high with the shower cap on for ten minutes. Then take the shower cap off and rinse you hair out). Also, a good product in Redken Anti-Snap leave in treatment. It is AMAZING.

Try to go an entire month with not flat ironing, curling, or blow-drying. If you want best results, and if you're willing to risk it, cut your hair all off. Not bald, but short, like a boy. (That's the only way I could describe it to you.) Also, you could always invest in a professional shampoo and conditioner. That's all I can think of now. Hope I helped!

i would strongly suggest k-pak reconstruct for damaged hair from the joico product line. it's PH ensures that it won't take from your hair but only strengthen, i've used it on ALOT of girls that have overprocessed their hair and after a few months of using it, breakage stops and their hair is supple and strong again. not only does it really work well, it smells absolutely amazing. try it, it's worth the money, it ranges from about 15-20 dollars per bottle, i would recommend the shampoo as well as the conditioner if your hair needs major repair, otherwise use any shampoo for coloured hair, even if your hair isn't coloured, colour safe shampoo is formulated to not strip the hair.. making it better for people with damage but definately try k-pak reconstruct condintioner I PROMISE, no I GUARANTEE it will work.

Try a course of B vitamins and start taking a teaspoon full of Udo's oil every morning after breakfast.
This will build up your hair strength from within.
Keep using Aveda - they're the best! :)

you are doing a good job; keep it up!
if you have a brush with balls on the ends get rid of it. once 1 ball falls off it will cause split ends. (and split ends CAUSE split ends also.) have your stylist get you a Denman brush.
ask your stylist, also, if you might benefit from some ethnic hair care products for the dryness. (i like Mizani for all ethnicities, but it's designed for dry, coarse hair with no moisture)
