It hs a really great skinan lots of gadjets on it.
But you should know that many older programs wont work properly on this because it has got DirectX 10 which doesnt have much compatibility with older versions.
But I suggest that you test it at least for a while.

If you are upgrading from ME or 2000, then the choice is yours. Personally, I love XP.

Vista has been a long time coming, and it supposed to be the best operating Windows ever. that's what was said about XP! My computer tech said he wouldn't install Vista if it was given to him, and he wouldn't buy it until late this year, if then. He did tell me I would have to replace nearly everything, or buy a new computer to run Vista. Since I'm not about to do that, XP is fine for me.

I didn't try the Beta version, so this is not an informed opinion, just an opinion.

Justin, after Jan 30, new computers will be shipping with Vista installed. Since your computer must be 4 or 5 years old, I recommend waiting until Jan 30 and BE SURE to buy one that is Vista installed ALREADY. That way, you know the machine specs are at least up to Vista requirements.

Vista is not much improvement over xp according to PC World, but it does require a more powerful video card. Don't know exactly what else might not be compatible.

They say its more secure but you'll need an upgrade.

It's all a load of BS if you ask me. Windows XP is fine, more than I need. so long as I don't want or need a program that runs just on vista, I'm ok.

The reason everyone upgraded is because windows 95 was so bad, then because their favorite apps would upgrade so it would only work on the later operating system.

Vista was programmed from the ground up so that it won't have legacy code in it (Windows XP and any other OS before it). It's improvement in the way the it operates and feels. Operates in that it's way easier to install apps and games and feels in the it uses the videocard to it's advantage. Alt tabbing now lets you see the windows in miniturized screens. It also has better security and media bonuses. There are quite a few different versions though, so just make sure you pick the one that suits your individual needs.
