Kongs, stuffed with frozen peanut butter type things, Jolly Balls....I think they are for horse, but a great for Newfs, bumpers that they can fetch in the water, treat balls.

Mine actually like a old cat litter jug that I chain close to the fence, and add about 2 cups of treats to. They spend all day trying to get the treats out of that!!! They need to be supervise to a degree with most toys, because just when you think they can't destroy it....they do. Mine never consume the toys, just make a big mess of them. They love the soft toys, like the Chewmen, and anything that has a squeeker, but they need to be closely watched with things like that. We just play in the yard with it, and then I take them away.
Huge rawhide bones are sometimes a hit....other times they just bury them.
I must say, the Kongs are what they have most of the time...I guess mostly due to the food that is in it!!!!

Be careful of too much throwing and fetching...like with a tennis ball.....it is a great way to rupture a cruciate!!!!! I try to limit fetching to the water so there is no sudden stopping and turning. I have had my share of ruptured ACL's in Newfs, and it is not good. They are too big and heavy and not built for that kind of thing.

Newfies cannot swallow a basketball, but they can and will puncture it and shred it. Then they may eat some of it.

Torbay is right. Be very careful of fetch games with giant breeds, or an ACL injury can be the result. Can be difficult to fix in such large dogs too.

tug toys and big balls,,,, they cannot swallow a basketball.. plus the opportunity to swim is a MUST for newfies,,, that is what they were bred to do,, and this is what they love to do,,, great exercise,,, if your newfie retrieves,, throw a tennis ball,,, he isn't going to swallow it... it isn't edible and doesn't taste edible
