Hi - my cat'd meow is usually loud! But over the last few days, it has gradually gone croaky and now is more of a rasp... can anyone help? I recently got a new kitten if thats anything to do with it. Obviously, she hated the new kitten but now they seem okay together! Thanks all !

I don't think that the new kitten as anything to do with it.Maybe if you watch your cat you'll notice that it grooms more.nurturing effects sometimes can cause that.and you know your cat may have just used its little voice abit to much so it can have vocal stress.Like humans do when they over-do..If it gets worse have your Vet check it over.

I hope the new kitten has been vaccinated because it'svery important that the kitten didn't bring in any deseases or respiratory infections,. If the kitten was vaccinated properly call the place where you got her and ask them if any of their cats are showing signs of a flu/cat cold. Ask nicely or they could get defensive and not tell you the truth.. If all checks out okay maybe your house needs more moisture heating in winter can be hard on cats also your cat could have done some major yowling when you weren't home and maybe she just has sore vocal chords. Put lots of water around the house if you have a humidiier use it and check the one on your furnace. Also have both cats checked by a vet it's always important to do this because all kittens are born with worms it's completely natural, gross, but normal so both cats need to be checked for parasits and have their shots and boosters. Good luck and good for you to get your cat a playmate, there is nothing sadder to me than just one cat I find that they are so lonely that way. Kudo's to you. Cat lovers are the greatest people.

Does your cat meow all the time? Mine does and will meow to the point of a croaky meow. I take care of her very well but she just meows like that all of the time. If your cat is like mine then shes just overly vocal and meows to the point where she cant anymore.

Just like us, cats can sometimes get a croaky meow when they over-vocalize and over use their voice box! Give him plenty of fresh water to help soothe his throat.

We thought that our cat had the same problem and the vet said, it is probably from old cat fights or his throat has gotten scratched and scared, he will be fine, and either it will be the same, or, he'll get better, and be back to normal.
