Well you want to make sure you take him to training classes. Pet Smarts training classes are guaranteed. I used to work there ( due to my unexpected preg I had to leave) and we trained plenty of dogs. We know what we are doing.

Also you want to make sure your puppy has these things:

1.Food and Water Dish (proper size.. you don't want something he can swim in)
2.A Good healthy food (Natures Recipe Puppy extremely healthy and has nothing bad in it)
3.Chew toys (Puppy Kong or a Natural Bone.. You want to stay away from rawhide it is not good for dogs.)
4.Proper size Crate ( he should be able to sit, Stand, Turn around and Lay down)
5. Bitter Apple Spray ( for when he starts chewing on things hes not supposed to)
6.Wee Wee Pads ( so you can potty train him)
7. A Collar ( Just to hold tags)
8. A Harness and Leash for walking
9. Puppy treats

You can get all of these things at Pet Smart. Bring him in with you so you can size the Collar, Harness and Leash.

If you catch him doing anything wrong you want to make sure you correct him. Never hit him or rub his face in his mess! Just grab his nose and say firmly WRONG! Then give him the proper chewing toy or show him that he is to potty outside or on his wee wee pad.

Puppies take a lot of work!

I know that crate training is very good to do with a new puppy. I have read a book called "Cesar's Way" and it was also very helpful. He has the show on national geographic channel called the dog wisperer if you get the chance to watch it. Here is a good link for new puppy advice. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/tpuppy.html

obedience classes are a MUST,,, dalmations are high energy dogs that have been bred for years for their looks,, therefore the sense and sensibility aspect ( brains) has gone by the wayside.. these dogs are very hard to train but need to be trained ...
