he is not married to the girl yet. Will his insurance cover the baby as soon as it is born or will he have to be married to the mother for the baby to be covered. He plans on getting married in October, after baby is born and if he doesn't go active and go to Iraq. He is currently in the A.N.G. Reserves. Thanks.

All he has to do is talk to his CO about getting the child listed as a dependent. Then that gets the wheels turning to get the kiddo insured. The wife on the other hand, can't be a dependent until they're married. But he seems to have that under control...Good luck, and best wishes.

What insurance? Military doesn't have HEALTH INSURANCE. It's called TRI CARE. If he's not married, the girl gets SQUAT in health care. She has to go to a civilian hospital and all costs will come out of pocket. Why is he waiting until OCTOBER? Is he stupid or what? So, if he doesn't go active or doesn't go to Iraq, he doesn't marry her? What kind of kid did you raise? If he goes active his wife and kid will be FULLY COVERED medically. And if he gets killed (in any way) THEY get the insurance. If he's not married, they get squat. Not even any support from the military. She's a non-person as far as the military goes if she's not his wife.

As long as the child is his dependent the child will be covered. But he needs to keep in mind that if he plans to marry than to get it done. The military has strict policies on members paying child support.

As a reserve, you are not covered the same as active duty. The baby will not be covered unless he is activated. Second, as the child is out of wedlock, he may need proof that it is his.

Why doesn't he get married BEFORE the baby is born! That seems the most logical to me! And why wouldn't he?
