I AGREE find a new vet!!! Quick. I've had cat's a lot longer as well. Have you documented when your cat is fainting? Is it after she eats, or plays, exactly what is she doing? Write it down like you would for a child. then when you visit the vet bring it along. It could be the food...an allergy or something serious you don't know and I certainly wouldn't trust your vet's opinion. I'd go for a second opinion after keeping a record of her behavior for a couple of days. Don't wait to long, but do have something to show the vet, it'll help a lot.

Cat Passes Out

The vet sounds alittel dense to me, if your cat passes out every time it gets sick it's not getting enough oxygen and why is it alway getting sick, is it hairballs:? Or a virus? i would not be happy with the answer the vet gave you and if he charged you for the visit I'd ask for my money back. First I would try a hairball formula for food and there is a hairball paste you can buy in tube that will help them pass hairballs, hairballs are dangerous for cats and should be treated seriously, so get the cat a good brush try a hair ball formula cat food along with wet food (wet food is lvery important for cats). Also ask the vet (hopefully a new one) if he might think the cat has allergies, allergies could be making the cat sick. Oh yeah an eight year old cat isn't relly old to me, cats live great long lives nowadays.
Make sure the cat always has lots oif fresh water, wet food, and a hairball formula, and brush the cat at least twice a day. My long haired cat pukes alot (hairballs) and he gets the royal treatment from me and STILL pukes, I couldn't imagine how he'd be without the extras I make sure he gets One other thing I forgot to mention was cat grass, I make sure my cats have grass growing all winter that they can eat it really helps their digesive system. Your cat will vomit a few times all cats do, but doing all if this should really ease the vomiting and hopefully the passing out. f it doesn't something else is wrong, I highly recommend you find a new vet. Also go onto feline sites and look up your problem there could be many other answers for on one of the sites. Good luck to you and your cat, I really hope this stops it would really uspest me.;

Hi Tish...I would have to agree with the consensus of considering an alternative veterinary opinion. Consider a feline-only veterinary specialist who perhaps may know specifically what type of disorder your cat has to be treated. There are so many causes for why cats vomit, however passing out as a result of this could be neurologically based, but it's difficult to know without performing other types of tests.

Passing out when getting sick (I'm assuming that means vomiting), isn't normal.

You may want to find a veterinary neurologist or other specialty hospital and bring the cat in for evaluation by then.

8 is definitely not old. Every healthy cat I've ownd has lived well into their late teens.

Good Luck.

Your vet may not have the capabilities for more diagnostic testing. I suggest you find an animal hospital that does and bring the cat in. For your vet to tell you that a frequently sick cat that passes out is nothing is wrong. There could be a lot of different things wrong and it is very serious!

Ya, get a new vet. I seriously doubt that that is "nothing"! And 8 years old is not old for a cat. I've had cats live up to 20 and my current cat is 15.

Dear One: Find a NEW VET!!!! When a cat "passes out" it is NOT "nothing." If availbale in your town, find a vet that specializes in felines.
