It's normal for someone to tell themselves that their boyfriend "really does love them" and that he "made a mistake" because they don't want to believe that their boyfriend doesn't love them as much as they think.
This is why your friend still "likes" him. She's wishing that it never happened, and she wants him back. She wants him to go back to the beginning and say how much he loves her. Unfortunately, this won't happen.
The best remedy? Give it time. I was in a similar situation as your friend and nothing anyone said would change my mind. But gradually, I began to see how bad my ex was, since I was just trying to tell myself he wasn't that bad, but he was.
The best thing you can do is to just be there for her when she realizes this. A great friend understands a friend's mistakes.
