We would like to go someplace in the Carribean or Central America with warm weather and vibrant culture, but don't want to spend a fortune.

There are tons of places to go in the Carribean that wont break the bank... My best advice is to go to a good travel agent and sit down and talk it over with them... Tell them your budget... Tell them what you would like to do and they can tell you what you can and cant get with your budget and tell you the best locations to fit your wants and needs.... Then get the travel agent to price your trip and they will hold that price for so long, then go home and do some research yourself on prices for the same trip... But you will probably find that if you compare the same trip that you price online with the one that the travel agent priced, the travel agents will 95% of the time be the better of the two... Good luck and have fun...

The Carribean is overpriced and I don't think much good inexpsensive independant travel can be done there. I would skip it.

Get yourself a Lonely planet for Panama, Honduras or Costa Rica and a cheap ticket off of Travelocity or Orbitz. You will enjoy it more do it on your on and intergrating more with the real world instead of the little tourist world.

I would go to Southern Mexico, Guatemala and maybe Honduras. Honduras has a few small caribbean islands which are not expensive. Guatemala and Mexico have the mayan temples (be sure to visit Tikal in Northern Guatemala, Palenque in Mexico is also great)

While there may be many cheaper places to visit, Carribean is not as expensive as it is made out to be above. However, I traveled India, where I enjoyed the rich culture. Among many nice places that we visited, I found Taj Mahal to be simply the most beautiful. It is said to be the only white marble monument of love in the world.

The beaches and metal rides can be found everywhere. But tourists of all ages enjoy elephant, camel, and cycle rickshaw rides. I enjoyed my experience with Smile India Tour and their dental tourism in India company Dental Care India Tour. They arranged Zoom and BriteSmile teeth whitening in India for us very cheap at one of 50 dental clinics they have at many cities in India and dental check up for kids was for free.
