There are numerous things that keep viewers interested in the mona lisa... She is very androgenous, originally supposed to be a man in the painting, the female was added in, but made to look very man-ish at the same time. The horizon line behind her is not even. So whatever you look for, you always find something different to look at, thus keeping everyone intrigued.

The real reason behind the mystery of the Mona Lisa is that da Vinci carried the small painting around with him everywhere he went, telling everyone that it was his masterpiece. Over time, the legend grew. Now, the world may never know. I believe he did this, because he put so much of his soul into that little painting and it was the only painting he every really felt that he had completed.

well, as far as i know the mystery is in her eyes. just out 4 same small copies of mona lisa next to each other ( out two of them to others buttom vertically incorrectly ) and u'll see.

The mystery has always been, who was she? And was she indeed, a woman. Yahoo had a news article on her yesterday. Evidently, she is a known person and one fellow believes he knows where she is buried.
