Start with cold fresh eggs you can break em into a small bowl if you want.
Heat non-stick or good heavy bottomed pan on medium high and add butter. Once the butter stops bubbling add your egg(s).
Turn the heat down to medium and cook until the whites and yolks are done to your liking.
Ease the eggs out of the pan with a flat spatula.
Don't forget the salt and pepper... and whoever mentioned the toast is spot on! Some orange slices or strawberries are a nice addition. A warm plate is nice, too.

My Mother always used a cast iron skillet with quite a bit of grease/oil in it ( maybe a quarter of an inch).
As the eggs cooked she would flip the hot grease up on to the eggs, cooking a thin layer on the top to hold all the goodies in.
Let the eggs drain when you scoop them up.
Yeah, don't forget the pepper.

Nonstick skillet
lots of bacon grease over hot flame, almost smoking
crack egg into the grease
then flip the hot grease up on top of the whites to cook... if you flip the grease up over the yolk, too, it's called "blind-folded"
Once whites are solid, remove w/ spatula, set on paper towel for a few seconds (w/ spatula still under it) and serve on plate.

use a nonstick pan! nothing is worse than having a beautiful looking egg in your frying pan get destroyed by the spatula because it's stuck. also, lightly salt and pepper the eggs, and make some toast to dip into the yolk! wow, i really want eggs now...
