I'm not sure I'm getting the context of the question but I'll try. I have had friends who were HIV positive and I treated them as I would my other friends. I've cared for patients with AIDS and used Universial Precautions as with used with any other patient. If you're having intimate contact with someone HIV positive, that changes the whole picture. In that case, you will need to check yourself and take care of your own needs. However, if this is just a friendship or family member, just stay clear of any body fluids, don't swap toothbrushes and so forth. You're not going to get Aids/HIV with casual contact. Godloveya.

I work in the hospital and as it is true that we take precautions EVERY time we are with a patient- we take more precautions that usual with someone with AIDS, HIV, Hepatitis, Etc...
It is not that we consider them any less, or treat them any less considerate than any other patient-but it is a simple fact that when someone has a disease that is transmittable-everyone and anyone will take all necessary precautions to not have contact with them in fear they will get it. I think this is a normal and healthy reaction.

Wow thats a tough question...I have never had to deal with this so I suppose I would just have to imagine...If it were a child of mine or a very close relative ,I suppose I would just have to be very careful around them.I know that it is dangerous to come in contact with bodily fluids...I think I would give them their own plate, cup, glass and silverware to use, their own linens, and use a lot of bleach water to spray whenever I saw the need...I do know one thing if it were a family member i know that I would be there for them and not turn my back on them.It would be terrible but I would just let them know that i love them but at the same time I would have to explain to them how I would have to be careful...But I would talk with them, try to take them for their treatments and treat them with kindness as I would any sick person because they would need a friend at this time more than ever.I would just have to take percautions ,Im sure that they would understand that...sometimes they can contact this without doing anything wrong, they can get it from blood trans fusions I have been told...So i suppose I would just have to be there for them and at the same time take every percaution to avoid spreading the disease.

Working in the field of Social Service you come accross those who have been infected and guess what! you treat them exactly how you want to be treated with respect.
I guess it is differnt if it is a family member or a friend and your feelings are more of worry and sympathy for them. Then I would educate myself on what is the best thing they can do for themselves, dont ignore them and do not cast themout because they have an illness.

Well it all depends on the relationship you have with the infected person. We are all people and know one should be treated any differently just because they are infected. It is hard enough for them in society. Just take extra precaution measures to protect yourself if the person if bleeding, have open sores.... And make sure you become educated about the virus.

I knew a young lady about 30 with full blown aids she was in so much pain, I would sit with her to comfort and pray with her. They had just came out with the cocktail drugs, she got on that and completely recovered.
