Most litters can't be flushed, even ones that claim they can--never flush clay litters.

I totally recommend Feline Pine. It's compressed sawdust, and can be flushed no problem (it goes back to sawdust when it gets wet).

The other huge benefit is it has NO urine smell. It does nothing for poop smell, but since you can scoop it out and flush it it's no big deal.

I flush the daily cleanings, and bag it when I am completely cleaning and changing the litter (although I actually have flushed a whole box worth--don't do too much at once if you have a low-flow toilet). Another benefit is it's very light (again, sawdust), so it's not bad at all to carry out to the trash.

I switched on vet advice, because the clay dust was bad for my cat. I had to follow the instructions on the bag for slowly blending the old and new litter, but they adjusted. And it's WAY better for the environment.

I send mine out with the trash. You don't say where you live or what kind of litter you are using though. If you have a lot of land, possibly you could spread in on the ground far away from the house, or even dig a hole and fill it with used litter then when it gets full cover it up again. Good fertilizer.

It is best to just bag it and put it out with the weekly garbage. "Flushable" cat litters are not really and completely flushable, especially if you live in an older home or apartment. The septic systems are not designed for it at all and it will gum up the pipes. I have three house cats and live in an older apartment, so this is my choice and recommendation to people who have questions about flushable cat litters.

weekly garbage pickup? If it sits outside in the rain it will smell like death warming over.
