Learning English should not be too hard for a Spanish speaking person since both are Romance languages (means many words are derived from Latin). I took 4 years of Spanish in high school and 2 semesters in college and these Mexicans are very suprised when they see how well I speak their language. I confront many of them when I hear them talking about how good Mexico is and how terrible America is. I always ask them if Mexico is so great why don't you go back?
Anyone who says English is the most difficult language to learn is an idiot. Try to learn Chinese or Russian.

Fact is they DO NOT WANT to!! Illegals just want to come to the US and think they can take over! Other immigrants came to the US and learned to speak English, why can't illegals???????

We have Spanish TV and radio stations. TV shows being brodcasted in Spanish. It just doesn't end!! So they have no motivation to learn English. If we took those TV and radio stations away (which they should not have in the 1st place) it would be a great start!!

They can learn it, they choose not to. And it is a challenging language. Most Americans don't know the English language to begin with. Even the spell check on this thing isn't correct.

The problem is that this country like no other makes it convenient for immigrants to continue to converse and conduct business in their native tongue. Travel to any non-English speaking country and try to find a government that will provide education in the public school system in a language other than the official language of that country. It doesn't happen, The US is self- destructing under the flag of "diversity". Diversity has been twisted to mean I'll conform to you and your beliefs but you have no obligation to try and assimilate into this country. I understand that people have and always will flock to this country in search of economic and personal freedom. I applaud them for that. By the same token I admonish them for not embracing our language and system. After all if the system they came from was so great they would have no need to come here. I am not asking them to abandon their culture but I am requesting that they speak the language and embrace our way of doing things.

There is no incentive for them to learn English. Everything is printed in Spanish, the announcements at stores are in Spanish, there are too many Spanish radio and television stations, the school districts allow them to speak Spanish at school... Need I go on?

Most immigrants learn English. The point is that many illegals are poor and have to focus most of their time on earning a living rather than spending time in a class room to learn English.

My point is this, are you multi-lingual?

If not, why?

By the way the most accomplished group using data available from the US government regarding test scores, graduation rates, entry into Graduate school suggest that immigrants, specifically Asian immigrants out perform their counterparts who have been in the US for greater than four generations.

I expect that if your answered my first question is no, then your second answer is because you have not had the time to devote to it as you have other priorities.

Well poor immigrants have other priorities, they necessity to survive.

Just ask yourself why immigrant children whose parents are from Asia (Chinese, Korean, Philippines, Japanese and India)consistently outperform children whose grandparents were born in the US.

It is certainly not because English is too challenging to learn, clearly they have mastered it within one generation.

They have low education. Asking an illegal immigrant to learn another language is like asking a redneck like you to learn one. It is impossible for the low IQ. At least there are some educated illegals that can learn, unlike rednecks.
