I just bought a Coby 5.1 channel 6 piece speaker system for my HP Pavilion A1430n. I thought that I hooked all the wires up correctly but there's no sound coming from them. The blue light on the sub is on so I know that it's getting power. Any ideas on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

HP has an exchellent web-site with troubleshotting

Go to www.hp.com/support and select your product
For example: For audio troubleshooting for your PC go to:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documentSubCategory?rule=32667&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1843642&lang=en

In most media PCs, you need to go to the control panel, select your audio application (Realtek?) and explicitly state that you want 6 channel out - otherwise the default is 2-ch out.
Your PC has also probably two set of audio outputs; the usual line-out (for 2-ch speakers) and and other set for front, back, and subwoofer. Make sure you connect your speakers to the correct output.

for one thing you should check to make sure you have the proper software installed if required and also in control panel you can select what output you want.
Good luck
