any advice will be appreciated, this is a serious case. im trying to help my neighbor. her husband cheated on her and when she found out through his conversation with the other one, he beat her 6month pregnant wife and dragged her out of his office. she didnt report because she is afraid, he has posession of weapon. she put a restraining order a week later and police took him out of the house, he's staying at his parents house. she changed the locks but still scared. she took video of the bruises that he gave her but i think she will need more evidence than that, and he wants custody of their 7 year old. she needs to find evidence that he was cheating on her, he also cut the phone service but she'll try to ask for last month's bill. he closed all the bank accounts, and she's living out of credit cards only and the defendant's (husband) mother found a lawyer for her and is paying for it but that is too fishy. she's goign to state attorneys next week and find her own attorney.

Hire a private detective. They are in the yellow pages.

You're gonna get screwed if you don't hire an attorney yourself. Forget the evidence of his adultery. It is never relevant and rarely admissible in a divorce proceeding for the dissolution of marriage. His abuse is though, and it serves both for dissolution and for custody issues. A lawyer will walk you through and will keep the other lawyer off your back through the process. You must must must get a lawyer. The STate Attorneys are not your family court lawyers. The only thing they are interested in is prosecuting violations of the law. They are not going to protect you from the other lawyer or the issues of custody and/or support. Good luck to you and your friend.

Everyone is right here. The fact that he is cheating is irrelivant. If he beat her she can get a divorce on cruelty alone, and no judge on this planet would award custody of a child to an abusive father. She needs to get to the police and file charges, get her own lawyer, as the mother in law has that lawyer in her back pocket. Both of you need to protect yourself because like it or not if he feels she is getting all her "bad" advise from you ...you will be next. Keep your doors locked and don't walk alone at night.
Take care and get it done.

Wow! What a great friend you must be to open yourself self up to become this man's next victim! You DO realize that is what you are stepping into, don't you? If she won't call the Police, then you should, because you have knowledge that a crime has been committed & neither of you women have gone to the Police. BIG MISTAKE. By the time one of you is found dead or near death after he beats you down, it will be more difficult for the Police to know who to look for or believe in regards to this man. Start a paper trail immediately. A man like this cannot be trused & neither can his family, because they will be on his side. She is about to loose her children to them, so the best thing she can do for herself & her children is to call a Battered Womens Hotline or a Domestic Violence Hotline & ask for help. She needs to get to a safe place, & that house is NOT safe for her or her children. You are not safe visiting that house with the info you know. She needs the help of the District Attotneys Office & they will give her legal representation that she will not have to pay for. Forget about the cheating & save your friends life NOW...call the Police & report the crime or call one of the hotline yourself & ask for advice. You have unknowingly placed yourself & your own family in harms way because a man like the one you have described go after everything & anything that their wives come into contact with. YOU need the Police as much as she does. Wake up before it's too late. Let the D.A. get the phone records & conduct their own investigation by paid professionals who know how to deal with violent people.
