No NHS ortho treatment is normally free, depending on the orthodontist. However it also depends on your child's teeth. There are special levels and depending how bad the situation is, the more likely it is to be free. Otherwise treatment is private.

You should not have to pay if you are willing to wait up to at least 2 yrs, orthodontists are extremely in demand at the moment and due to the mental funding the NHS gives ortho practices they will only treat a certain amount of patients a month, once they have reached that number they do not treat any others. As ortho treatment can take years, you have to wait for someone to finish their treatment before you can get on the list!! Mental I know but that's NHS dental treatment for you.. You could pay privately, if your dentist offers Enhance, (an interest free loan) it may be worth considering this option as you will be seen immediately. Money talks!

Braces are not available on the NHS for patients over 18years old. In exception circumstances it may be possible for over 18yr old to have braces on the NHS but the problems would have to be affecting function and not just cosmetic. Even if you are on benefits you cannot get private treatment at a reduced rate.

I have braces, and it is free under the NHS if your under 18!! Id reccomend you go to an orthodontist though as they specialise in brace rather than your dentist.

i heard that even many surgeries have been done free of cost at NHS. So hope every treatment at NHS is free.Better consult your doctor. If u need to do it quick, have it done. or else u can just give simple treatments.

if your dentist refs them to an orthodontist no you won't have to pay the only out lay you will have is the cleaning kit you have to buy which is around 12pounds and if the child loses his brace you will have to pay about 65-110 but if they break it it will be repaired for free
