you can take an egg out and spin it on the counter.

if the center has hardened the egg will spin for a long time, but if it's still liquid then it will wobble and fall in a matter of seconds.

test it out with a hard boiled and raw egg.

Well if you put the eggs in before they boil and wait for about 8-10 minutes after the water starts boiling they will be done. Don't wait to long or the eggs will start to crack.

I put the eggs in the pot and then cover them with cold water. Turn the heat up to high and let in come to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes. Turn off heat and cover the pot. Let eggs sit for 10 minutes. Drain off water and shake eggs in the pot to crack the shells. Run them under COLD water a few times to cool them down and stop the cooking. Let them sit for a few minutes and then peel. I always have perfect hard boiled eggs...good luck!!

Once the water starts boiling, the eggs should take about 8 minutes to be completely cooked.

I was taught to bring the eggs to a boil; shut off the burner and let them sit in the water for 15 minutes. They usually come out perfect!

Do this for perfect eggs every time!

Cover eggs with cold water & place on burner on HIGH. When they come to a boil, turn heat down and set a timer for EXACTLY 12 minutes. When the timer goes off, drain the water, and run cold water over them until they are cool---you have to do this to stop any further cooking.
Perfect every time, and never a green (overcooked) yolk!

I think the rule of thumb for hard boiled is about 6 minutes after the water starts boiling. I usually leave mine on for 12 just for measure.

When my timer goes off. I put them in a pan with cold water, bring it up to a boil, set the timer, and boil for 15 minutes, drain and cover with cold water. They always turn out fine.
