I heard within a few hours, this was from his friends [I was gf and had little to no rights]..........they called from the area it happened to the local base and mutual friends that had yet to leave came around and told me, this was JUST a pure act of kindness on their part.

But from what I have been told it is within 24 hours, and the Chaplin / officer comes to your house in full dress uniform to tell you, so basically you know as they pull up as they NEVER come to your house otherwise.

I'm fortunate enough that my older brother in the Army is still alive, but my guess is that it takes a while, because first they have to wait until the battle stops, which could take weeks, I guess, and then they have to look at all the dog tags of the dead people and of course it would take about a week or so just for the letter to get to the country the soldier was from.

Generally - within 24 hours. The longest time I saw was when the next-of-kin lived in a remote area outside the US. In this case it took almost 72 hours.

notification should not be more than 24 hours after the incident unles communication from the area of the casualty is delayed for tactical and operational security reasons. Upon notification of the command level, there is a 24 hour window.

it takes a few hours once the body is identified someone from the local command. they have people that this is their job go to the next of kins home a parent or wife and they tell never tell them over the phone

usually within 24 hours if ur details on on the documents in the uk case someone will visit the next of kin

my wife brother was killed in Iraq on june 28 2003(P.F.C. Kevin C. Ott) and we hear it on cnn 6 hour before the army tolds us.They told my father in law not believe anything you hear on TV
