Do those of you who belong to faiths that meet in congregations find that having a religious figure preach from the texts gives you greater understanding of the message behind the text? Do you feel that it stifles your own ability to interpret the text?

In fact, do you think that these texts were meant to be interpreted by us or by imams/rabbis/pastors?

Also, I included imams, but I wasn't sure if services had any sort of dissection of the Qu'ran, or if they were more geared towards prayer. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I'm training to be a priest/pastor at the moment and I couldn't agree with you more,

Any good pastor will only function to facilitate the ordinary members of their congregation grappeling with the Bible and God themselves - not primarily tell them what they should think about things.

Anything else is just power manipulation...

1 John 2:27
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Prov 1:23
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you
