absolutely! the stuff you get in the grocery store is a metallic based dye-which really coats the hair and makes it hard for even hairstylists to remove. not to mention the high levels of ammonia, and they always have a crazy high volume of peroxide that 99% of the time is too harsh for your hair.
salon color- all color has to have some ammonia or it won't work...higher end colors like paul mitchell has found a way to lower that % and still get great results. this particular line (my example because I'm familiar with it) is a beeswax based color. which sounds better for the hair...metal or beeswax? it actually makes the hair super shiny! plus stylists have all the supplies they need at their disposal so they can formulate what volume of peroxide your hair needs. of course they have a whole color line too-so your not buying one random color that you hope works-they can custom mix a color for you so it comes out just as you like! :)

Well, yes and no. I think what you buy in a drugstore is a very generic color formula, with a very generic developer. Hair Salon hair color will provide you more bang--they can not only tweak your color formula to get it exactly right, they can use a developer that's better for your hair.
Sometimes, hair color in a bottle is mislabeled. It only takes ONE at-home hair disaster to ruin all the savings you've accumulated by coloring your hair at home because color correction is a very, very expensive process.
I think that you are safer generally going darker than your natural color is okay, but I would never think about lightening my hair at home. There's just too much that could go wrong, and why walk around with funny stripes?

i think they charge about the same one is stripping of color highlights and one is depositing color low lights if done at the same time wicked expensive one alone should be like the cost of a perm. don't do the high and low thing yourself leave it to a professional. the main thing is the peroxide volume it comes in different strengths and only a pro knows how to mix these. reg box stuff can not go above a certain level and it a one size fits all kinda kit skip that.

Hair color in a bottle is different--for sure. But that all depends on what you spend for it and if you have someone to help. The real difference is not in ingredients, but the fact that you have a professional applying it to your hair. Hair color lightens and darkens in stages, and tyring to do it yourself might leave your hair orangish.
