i had this same question when shopping for a tv - bought an lcd cos easier maintenance, screen won't burn out (altho technology for plasma screens has improved) - and i feel safer with a product that will hopefully last longer - value for money

We did a lot of research on this, and bought a LCD. Consumer reports also gives this a thumbs up. The prices are going down, and there are sales all of the time. Which is the better buy? I'd google it and then compare what you read. What I like may not be what you like, and vice versa. We have had the LCD almost a year, and love it. We bought at CompUSA, as there prices were the best, but we did search 8 other stores. We did not get the extra warranty, as ConsumerReports magazine stated that generally they are a rip off. I have found that to be so. We bought a computer system the same day, bought the warranty, and realized we didn't need it. Money gone for nothing. Oh, well, hopefully others can tell you their experiences, but ours have been great with LCD.

The LCD is a proven reliable technology that has been around for a very long time plasma has gotten alot better but Ive seen them go out and its not a pretty sight even if you got a deal and paid 1000 for a 42in plasma it would still suck to have it go out and see your grand down the drain (oh and by the way you cant refill a plasma with new gas dont believe me call your local tv stores and ask how much it costs to have your plasma refilled I would block the caller ID before you do that though they might think your dumb)

LCD is better because it is not easily damaged like the plasma. The plasma screen can have images burned into it. If you are watching a station that has a ticker on the bottom of the screen it can damage the plasma screen. If you are in a higher elevation, an LCD is a must.

OKay this is a tough one to answer but im willing. LCD televisions usually come in smaller sizes but are starting to get larger. They typically can absorb excess light so they do better in brighter areas. LCD televisions do not have the "extreme" super clairty that some plasmas have but they are pretty close. Also LCD tvs usually dont have burn in. Where like the "animal planet logo" will acually make a burn in picture of it. LCD tvs are usually cheaper too. Plasmas can come in MUCH larger sizes and and they same way with the prices. They do better in darker rooms because they do not absorb light like LCD tvs do. Plasmas are also known to burn in but a lot of manerfacturers are starting to get rid of this. So when it comes down to it it depends where your putting it.... how much light... how much you can pay.... but over all i would choose a LCD.

Plasmas come in larger sizes and show darker colors better but Plasmas turn blue after a year or two and consume more electricity than an LCD. They both are suject to image burn in but LCD's are getting bigger, more color richness and are cheaper and use less energy.
I'd go with a Visio, Sony, Samsung or Magnavox LCD.

*One* friend suggested that plasma gave a wider angle of view. We ended up with plasma. Plasma screens, I think, also tend to be bigger TVs (thus more expensive?) But maybe I'm out of date: we bought early, and regrettably, before prices came down...Be careful to search out brand name reviews!

on the big brother show this guy said if any thing starts with the word plasma it is the best so there is the answer the plasma is beter to buy.
