I have known that i've been anemic and low in iron ever since i was born. i'm finally going to the doctor about it but i just want to be prepared to know what they are going to do to me. What do they do to check for diabetes too?

we wil be doing haemoglobin estimation , haematocrit.serum ferritin, serum transferin can be done to see ur iron stores. stool examination to see the ova or the cyst if you have hook worm infection can be found as it is a common cause for anemia in india.peripheral blood smear examination can be done to see if there is any malaria or filarial infection. and you are chronically anemic so you should have to check for any kidney disorders or inherited haemoglobinopathies like sickle cell anemia or any excessive blood loss during your menstrual cycles. is ther any body else in your family who have the same complaints?
for diabetes we ll he checking your fasting and post prandial blood sugar and Hba1c to see your blood sugar control

for anemia doctor first askes you some questions like easy fatigability and then examines u like if u r pale.then u do a cbc(complete blood count). for diabetes there is increased eating and drinking and polyuria. in D.M they do fasting blood sugar and 1hour post prandial blood sugar.

Usually they do blood count for your anemia (extract blood from a vein) and capillary blood test (puncture a finger) to find out P-glucose (sugar) in your blood.
