IT COULD BE WORSE.
I HAVE BOTH NEIGHBORS WHO SMOKE AND I HAVE TO GO IN WHEN THEY ARE OUTSIDE SMOKING.
WHAT A MESS!
NOT TO SURE WHY THEY GO OUTSIDE TO SMOKE?
OH YES AND THE WHEN MY ONE NEIGHBOR HAS HER WINDOWS OPEN I GET A BAD DIRTY SMOKEY SMELL COMING FROM HER HOUSE.
AMAZING THAT IT STINKS SO BAD IN HER HOUSE THAT I CAN SMELL IT OVER ON MY PROPERTY!
ALSO A NOTE FOR THE SMOKERS.
I OWN A CLEANING BUSINESS AND GET CALLS ALL THE TIME ABOUT PEOPLE WANTING A HOUSE CLEANED TO REMOVE SMOKE ODORS. I REFUSE THE JOB BECAUSE I CANNOT REMOVE THOSE ODORS. YOU HAVE TO RIP OUT ALL THE CARPET,BLEACH AND PAINT THE WALLS TO GET MOST OF IT OUT. SO THINK ABOUT THE EXPENSE IF YOU PLAN TO SELL YOUR HOME.

I am a smoker, I do not think I am inconsiderate when smoking as I only smoke in posted smoking areas, out in a large open area, in my car, etc. I do not ever blow smoke at or near someone or around children. I feel I am much more considerate then non smokers who feel that smokers have no rights. It is kind of like me telling people don't ever drink again, especially in public places. Because this bothers me to watch people loose control of themselves, then get on the road putting others lives in danger. I think smokers deserve some credit for not being quite that inconsiderate.

No. It's an addiction. They do care. Do you personally know anyone that smokes. Yes, some of them are selfish, but so is everyone else in the world! Don't stereotype smokers, because they are all not alike. Many of them try to be considerate, but it's hard when it's an addiction. They aren't allowed to smoke in public places anymore, so they have to go outside. If you don't like it than walk away from it! My Dad smokes, and he's not inconsiderate. It is disgusting, but you have to understand the kind of control it has over you.

The better question is why are people like you forcing them to scramble for every opportunity and space to light up? While the health risks involved with smoking are real, there is still the right to smoke and drink alcohol. If we ban smoking altogether we risk the potential of having the ban backfire, just like Prohibition in the 20s.
What people fail to realize is that as some go championing for health and right not to have to breathe in smoke, the only people willing to defend the smoker's rights are the tobacco companies and a few smokers groups. The right to life and liberty extend to both parties, not just one, and not with the caveat that what you do to pursue life and liberty has to be healthy and acceptable for everyone.
I used to be a smoker and seeing the scorn and ire people have for smokers is appalling. I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke anymore, but that does not give me the right to enforce my will upon another person who does something that I do not like. Look at the so-called Drug War: people use drugs regardless of what the laws are, and in fact, a police officer organization is saying that the drug war is a futile effort. Imagine if we ban tobacco: the users go underground and the industry gets a shot in the arm, and then profits go up.
Where will the control stop? Once the big bad tobacco plant is banned, what's next? Coffee? Alcohol...again? Sugar? McDonald's? Ice cream? Soda? Red meat?

That maybe a true statement in some cases. I, for one, do care who I light up around. I go outside, even if there is an indoor smoking section. I don't smoke in car MY unless I am by myself or with other smokers only, and I don't allow smoking in MY car if non-smokers are in the car, even if they say it is ok. When I go outside to smoke I make every effort to stand down wind of any non-smoker.
The only time I smoke inside is if am out having a beer and shooting pool with my friends, but if you come into a bar you automatically give up your right to suppress my freedom to smoke. Pretty much anywhere other than a bar I give up my right to smoke in favor of your choice not to smoke. Just don't mess with the one smoking sanctuary us smokers have.

Not all smokers are like that. I smoke and i am always thinking where i am when i light up or who i am around. If someone gets too close i butt out immediately. Most of the time i leave the smoking in my home. That way i do not offend anyone.

Let's get one thing straight!!!
Smoking is an addiction!! Due to this society that we live in today, smokers are forced to wait until they can get to an exit so that they can light up, so just when your dumb a** is standing there looking stupid and in the way, there you happen to be.
Should all smokers just go around asking everyone if they can light up every time they must feed their addiction?
Do you think that non-smokers are considerate and always care about everyone else?
You must be joking!
You people are stupid! .....do you think that smokers enjoy wasting their time and money and health and freezing their butts off in the winter because it's fun? Because they are selfish? Because it's so stylish and sexy? (cough cough)
maybe they should smoke just to make you irritated!

Not all of them are. My husband and friends smoke - I don't. But they always ask before lighting up.
As for others, I think its just such a habit that they forget it bothers non-smokers so much. Ruins their meals, moods etc. Others may even believe they have a right to light up in public, especially when you're in an area that allows smoking.
Canada has banned smoking in all public restaurants and other areas (including night clubs!) they've made separate glass rooms for smokers to go bask in smoke. lol.
It doesn't bother me though. :p

We're not all the same. I hate that I still smoke--even though I don't smoke much anymore--but I don't even smoke inside my own house. I always go outside, and I never smoke in my car, and I certainly don't smoke in other people's homes, restaurants, or around non-smokers. I don't like the rude ones either.

well being a smoker myself i think that I can answer this one. Most people think because this is America they can do about what ever. Yes it does give them a right. If it bothers you, you should move away from the smoke. i personaly do not smoke around people that I do or do not think will like it.
