Donating to support the Kingdom of Christ here on earth is a privilege that true believers are grateful to take part in. There is no longer a legal requirement to pay God a certain percentage of one's income like He was some divine tax collector. Instead believers are given this New Testament passage that describes what should determine their attitude and generosity.

2 Corinthians 9:6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. (7) Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

(8) And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (9) As it is written, "He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever."

(10) He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. (11) You will be enriched in every way for all your generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. (12) For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. (13) By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission flowing from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, (14) while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you.

(15) Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

If you read the Bible you will find in the OT that the Israelites were to pay a 10th of all that they received. In the NT we find that just as with forgiveness being done 490 times when Jesus was asked how often we should forgive. Now He doesn't mean do it that many times and stop, but after that many times forgiveness will be a habit. Now the tithe was given to be training wheels for giving so that it would become a habit and eventually we should see that not only will it not hurt us it will help us.

Must pay? absolutely nothing. It is not a debt that we can pay. It has been paid for us by Jesus Christ.

His earnings? We have none on our own, without God, we are nothing, we come from dust and we return to dust. God gives us all that is in between. It is his and we are merely the stewards (bankers) of all that he trusts us with of his.

How are you handling Gods money? Will he be pleased? Have you given him any return or profit on what he has trusted you with?

Christians tithe 10% of their income to God, and the reason is that it is He who provides us and we owe Him a debt. It is not our money but His. If we make a profit we must pay Him back the 10% of what we owe Him. Offerings are above and beyond our debt and are optional, like putting money into God's bank into a savings account.
