Of course they know it. They can look at their Player Club data, and see who their VIP players are. These are the people who gamble frequently, and gamble a lot of money. The casinos cater to those people, enticing them back to THEIR casino, knowing that they will be gambling somewhere, and they want to keep that player's business.
Having said that.... not all the frequent/heavy gamblers are "problem gamblers." Many can afford it, and it is their entertainment of choice. "Problem gambling" is when the gambling cuts into essential spending, such as food, shelter, savings, taking care of children's education, etc.
Most people have "addictions" of some sort. You can be "addicted" to chocolate, football, video games, exercise, soap operas....the list is endless. Addictions are not always destructive.. just a predilection to one thing over another. These addictions become destructive when they take precedence over other essential things.
I think the casinos do care, but not necessarily from a compassionate standpoint. (Although I know of cases where casino managers have taken it upon themselves to help problem gamblers.) It is not in their best interests to cater to people who are short-term profit centers. People who have a true gambling problem will lose everything, and no longer be profitable.
State Lotteries and Powerball probably entice problem gamblers more than casinos. Casinos are an entertainment experience. Lottos are get rich quick enticements for the poor.

Just because someone gambles does not mean that have an addiction. In fact, if the facts were known I would expect that the majority of those of gambled in legal places like Las Vegas are not addicted but rather having fun, hoping they will win big but in their brains, not heart, knowing they will probably lose.
In Nevada the sign for the 800 number is posted but I doubt many people even read the sign. For those who are truly addicted and lose too much, if not everything, it takes going to the bottom of the barrel, usually, before they might reach out for help.
It does not take much intelligence to realize that to built those multi BILLION dollar resorts people have to lose.

Look, they are over 21 and cant be responsible(casino) for what every adult does. There is personal accountability. If they were not in a casino, they(addict) would be throwing dice on the corner. I am tired of society trying to be everybody's keeper. I hate smoking, but it is a choice to start so dont blame the tobacco company's for the worlds evil either.

hmmmmm, I'll bet you ten to one that they not only know about it, but celebrate that fact every day. They didn't build those big, fancy hotels by letting people win, now did they?

No they don't care! They thrive on people's addictions. Same with the cigarette companies and such.
