I've read that adoption is not allowed in islam. This is because muhammed wanted to marry his adopted son's wife. In order to marry his son's wife, he outlawed adoption in islam, therefore making his son not his son anymore. This way he was free to marry his ex daughter-in-law.
Is this true?

How about the fact that an adopted child is not your child? You can say it all you want, but it's not your blood You don't "make" somebody your child.

no adoption isnt not allowed, its just it not allowed if say for example a husband and wife adopt a son and they have 2 daughters and when they all grow up, bcos the son isnt blood relative, the daughters have to cover up in front of him, thus this makes living difficult as he is not their real blood mahram. Islam does encourage helping others therefore paying for the living expenses for a child who needs it or for their education etc.

You know what, I am not 100% sure so I am not going to go into detail, but all I really know is that the child keeps the name of the biological father. I would guess the adopted child would be treated the exact same way as the other natural born children.

No adoption is allowed in Islam. It's just when you adopt you can't change the child's last name to the adopted family's name. It has to stay the name that the biological father gave it.

Praise be to Allaah.
Adoption of children is of two types, forbidden and not forbidden.
The forbidden type means adopting a child in the sense that the child is considered to be the child of the adopting parent and subject to the rulings on children. This is not permitted. Allaah nullified it in the Qur’aan when He said (interpretation of the meaning):
“…nor has He made your adopted sons your real sons…”
[al-Ahzaab 33:4]
The kind which is prescribed and may be mustahabb means being kind towards the child and giving him a righteous religious upbringing and sound direction, teaching him that which will benefit him in this world and the next. But it is not permitted to hand a child over except to one who is known to be trustworthy, religiously-committed and of good character, who will take care of the child’s interests. He should also be a local resident, so that he will not take the child away to a country where his presence may be a cause for his religious commitment being lost in the future. If these conditions are met in the case of both the child and the adopting parent, then it is OK to hand over a foundling whose parentage is not known. May Allaah preserve you

never heard that one before
but yes adoption is not allowed in the sense that when u take on the responsibility of a child u should not change the child's family name
the child can be adopted by u but his/her name should be their original family(father's) name,
its their identity and no one has the right to change it
according to Islam

OH MY GOD...NO......its ONE OF THE RECURRING HALAL(good deed)...if you plant a tree, as long as the tree lasts your rewarded fo the shade and fruits it provides to people and animals......you leave behind a pious child......as long as the Child prays FOR you AND NOT AT YOU......you are rewarded......you bring in an Orphan(adopt) and give him/her a good education and make him/her a good citizen/muslim...then your rewarded the same way....infact IM PLANNING TO ADOPT SOON.....it would be one of the luckiest people who CAN adopt......and your not supposed to make use or take any of the orphans money/assets...and if you can ur to avoid treating them different from your own children.....
