we humans have evolved to be inquisitive creatures (most mammals are). Thus we often ask 'why', looking for patterns/meaning. Of course, in this natural universe, the question 'how' is much more relevant and interesting.

They ask why, beause they are smart asses. They just don't understand the concept of faith. I know where I'm going when I die, they don't. They envy us because we do not fear death, while there belifs give them no choice but to fear death. Many atheists on there death bed will accept Jesus, or some other form of faith. It's easy for a 23 year old atheist to say "you just go into the ground when you die." But when they are hours away from them "going into the ground." I think you will find they state a much different oppion.

I'm a folklore and mythology major, which overflows into anthropology and religion. To me, knowing *why* someone believes something is incredibly interesting.

The only why question I ask is 'Why on earth do you believe in god?' No other why question makes much sense.

They are trying not to face that fact that God and Jesus are real. They come to R&S and do what they do because they really do believe, but they are running from themselves.
