We have had two nests of kittens quite close together, one duo is now 10 months old, one duo is about six months old. The kittens mom and older sister are on the cat 'pill' and so far so good. My dad is freaking out now coz he thinks the kittens will be trying to have kittens. I thought since the boy kitten hasn't developed his furry marbles (for lack of a medical name) ànd is only six months old he won't be trying anything and so the girl kitten is perfectly safe. I also thought the ten month old wouldn't try anything with the six month old considering she is still tiny.

Sorry if this sounds muddled but I'd like to know:
* does a 6 month old kitten need the pill?
* will a 6 month old male try (and be able to do) anything with a 6 month old female?
* can the 10 month and the 6 month be left together safely for now?

(we are getting them fixed in a while)

They are at the right age to be spayed or neutered right now. Both the 10 month old and the 6 month old. I didn't know they had a pill for a cat. I can see if you were a breeder and you didn't want to have two litters a year where the pill would be useful. Wow! That is neat! But if you are wanting them fixed do it right away. 10 months is not to young and neither is 6 month!

Get these cats spayed and neutered RIGHT NOW at six months they are becoming sexually active. The pill for animals is the most ridicules thing I have ever hear ed in my life. You have no idea what damage can be caused putting chemicals into cats by way of birth control. It dose not sound like you know much about caring for cats, so please take advice in the best interest of your cats get them fixed and also the mother, having to many litters will damage her health. Being a pet owner means looking after them properly. You can get books to check about pet care.Remember they are living feeling creatures.

Don't wait, cats should be neutered between 4 and 5 months and can be done at 2 and 3 months.

Waiting longer as you have, risks more kittens.

The pill will be far more expensive, and is only worthwhile if you intend to breed from them.

You may find a local charity who will help you with costs for spaying and neuturing. I am unable to advise as I do not know what country you are resided in.

So, I have worked in the vet profession for almost 9 years and have NEVER heard of a birth control pill for cats. So, I would stop wasting my time with that and just get them spayed and neutered and then you won't have to worry about anything

Between 4-8 months old

Hi Elle Dee...cats over the age of 6 months will begin to reach sexual maturity and will mate with their own siblings so it is best to separate the different gender cats from one another to prevent unwanted pregnancies--keep females in one room and males in another. In all honesty, spay/neuter is your only best option as cats as the hormone pills can greatly increas the risk for cancer in cats.

Most shelters worldwide offer low fee spay/neuters and some even for free in particiating areas. Consider ringing your local shelter to schedule spay/neuters. USA residents can ring 1-800-SPAY USA http://spayusa.org to locate a nearby participating shelters.

Once a cat reaches six months of age (or earlier) it can reproduce. GET THOSE CATS SPAYED OR NEUTERED. There are already way to many cats in the world.

well I never knew there was such a thing for cats, but i assume if the vet gave it to you for them, then it must be alright. but to answer part of your question, I doubt a 6 month old male can or would do anything...he hasn't matured enough sexually for that. it's best that you get them fixed as soon as possible though.
