I'd like to know why you have this question. If you happen to be pregnant by someone over 35, just his age is not a reason for you to worry. It used to be the case that doctor's were more concerned when a female over the age of 35 became pregnant because of certain risks, but with modern science, good prenatal care, and testing, most things can be discovered well in advance of the birth of the child. But to give an answer to your question, please look up Strom Thurmond on the internet. He was fathering normal healthy babies in his much older age than 35. Age is not the factor, but health and lifestyle may very well be.

I've heard that Men And women couples over 35 are more likely to have "down syndrome" children, but, I was pretty sure it was due to the women, not the men. My great great great grand father married an 18 y/o mail order bride when he was 75 and had 10 + kids! No one in our history that I can think of that was mentally challenged. Might be good genes though.

i read that there is a higher chance of birth defects with men over 35, but only if the woman is over a certain age too (30? not sure.) so it seems that the age of the woman is a far greater concern than the age of the man. after all, it's nine months and 7 pounds, all the man has to do is squirt a ittle.

'You must have heard about some research that has recently been published. It is common knowledge that older women have a higher risk of having babies with Down's syndrome which is one form of mental retardation. Now there is evidence that older men also have a higher risk of having babies with Down's syndrome. Down's syndrome is caused by a chromosome which breaks into two peices. Apparently, increasing the age of the parent(s) increases the risk of Down's syndrome.
