I recently got blood tests done to see if I have mono (which I had about 5 years ago). The test results said I have positive (or high) results for EBV CAPSID IGG and EBV CAPSID IGM as well as EBG NUC AG IGG....what does all this mean? I also have a positive showing for CMV IGG and elevated WBC and SED rate....please advise...thank you

EBV is Epstein Barr virus
CMV is cytomegalovirus
Capsids are parts of viruses
IGG and IGM are types of immunoglobulins - the antibodies that your body makes to fight viruses.

You have been exposed to, and made antibodies against, both of those viruses.

WBC = white blood cell count
SED = sedimentation rate

Those are both very non-specific tests that can indicate infection. (but can be elevated for many many reasons)

I'm not sure of the significance of the tests - why haven't you asked the doctor who ordered them? He/she should be able to tell you what they mean for your particular case.

Good luck.
