In summary of what the article SEEMS to say, they want 'provisional' (not 'guest') workers with finite length visas for jobs that exist, apparently NOT family unification rights, legalization of screened people here...
I don't know enough about it to really speak to it, but it is at least a genuinely new idea.
What do you think?

However, I disaprove of the disbanding of Minutemen (2d Amendment if ever it applied), and the idea of a smart border in lieu of a fence if they mean that to include urban areas where a fence is truly needed.

k- I didn't say we should, but we need to solve the problem. This is not something I would get behind as is, but it at least starts the discusion in a different place. And I think that if it ACTUALLY means doing away with automatic family unification rights (other than the pre-1965 kind) that could make a tremendous difference combined with enforcement going forward.

Fair question but I don't think the article addresses illegals already here. The suggestion itself is reasonable, but we have it already in one shape or another. The fact is there will never be enough visas for all those who want them. Hence, we will always have illegals.
We really need to accept that enforcement comes first. Then, and only then, can we have a rational discussion about guest/provisional worker programs. I suggest that those discussions should include government, employers and the voice of middle-class America. We need to get organized.

No amnesty no way! else we will have an even bigger flood of illegals wanting the next amnesty.
Besides, what does that say about rewarding criminals?
Three simple steps will solve the immigration problem.
1. Guest worker program for those OUTSIDE the USA who do not have any criminal history. 11 months at a time (like H2 visas).
2. If an illegal alien is found in the USA, then a LIFETIME bar to coming back regardless of the situation (ie marriage to US Citizen) without specific waiver from the government.
3. Allow ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and Border Patrol do their jobs! Let them do worksite enforcement (and fining employers), picking up illegals that have been arrested by state and local police for ANY violation.
Now an illegal can get deported several times and not be prosecuted. The illegal can then get immigration relief by marrying some stupid us citizen. The level of proof against employers is close to "beyond a reasonable doubt" (criminal standard) and not "preponderance of evidence (civil standard).

How about enforcing the current immigration laws already on the books? Or is that too genius for them to comprehend?
I agree that Provisional aliens is what we need. Why should the U.S. give them amnesty for scrubbing someones toilet.
They can unify with their families they left in their countries of origin. They have more relatives there than here.
That Arizona Governor should be thrown out of office, if she thinks that the illegal aliens are so incorrigible and there's nothing she can do about it. Maybe we should put armed guards on the border!
America will have to tell the rest of the world sorry the U.S. is fresh out of boat spaces.
Until we start deporting the illegal aliens here there's no room for any new immigrants.

The problem with the illegal immigration is not what the government if fixing to do with the new comers,, the big problem is with the 12+ millions of illegal aliens that we already have in the USA and the government want to give them amnesty. And the other problem is with our border with Mexico that is wide open and thousands and thousands are crossing every day. Now the Democrats in the Congress are talking about not building the fence that was approved last year and became law. That is the problem and we the Americans have to be very awake about it.

It is hard to think what is a solution for this Immigration Issue. From my perspective; The best fence would be made based on people minds through "Psychological warfare" and through a message delivered already by press and many groups against government policies Locally and overseas, due to Globalization of economies. A fence is a boundaries that defines the believes, history, religion and culture of a group of people. The Money and economical factors have made us break those fences (partially) creating this dilemma; weather is good or bad for either one of us. On the long road the conditions are on the table, I do give this to you today, You give me this tomorrow.

One of the things i read that i take exception with, is the part where it said, they were "devising a path to legal residence for those already ILLEGALLY in the country. I do NOT want these CRIMINALS rewarded for breaking our laws!!!! Because they HAVE broken our laws, by sneaking into the country. Why should we "forgive and forget" that little FACT??? What OTHER things will they be "forgiven" for??? STEALING someone else's i.d.???
I don't like the idea of rewarding these illegals, when they KNEW they were breaking our laws when they came here!!!

This is the ONLY part of the "plan" that I agree with:
"But opponents of that idea say giving illegal immigrants a path to legal status amounts to amnesty for illegal acts. The activist group Numbers USA says when Congress has granted amnesty to select groups in the past, it has been followed by dramatic increases in illegal immigration."
NO AMNESTY under any name!
This plan stinks to high heaven of pro illegal rhetoric and pro business BS.
