How could, as the story goes, God protect only one while thousands were ripped from their mothers arms and stabbed to death while God watched?

There is no historical proof that the event happened, although Herod had killed two of his own sons and various distant relatives who were potential heirs to the throne. It has been suggested (despite the biblical wording) that perhaps Jesus had a direct family line to the throne of Herod and was considered a threat a birth. The bible says he was from "Davids" (read King Davids line, so perhaps that is true.

The entire account of Herod slaughtering the children is apocryphal. It simply did not happen. The Jewish historian Josephus (who was actually the brother-in-law of Herod) delighted in detailing Herod's numerous crimes but he failed to mention this one, the one that what would have been his most heinous by far.

herrod was extreamly angree he would have noticed is all babys boys disapeared over night . he might have killed far more boys.
