I was in the barbershop Monday and I was reading one of the jugs and it said something about it expiring in 2008. I'm thinking water doesnt expire at all since it is part of the Earth. What's that about?

EVERYTHING has expiration dates these days and much of it is just a marketing ploy, although required by the government.
Most canned/glass goods don't spoil, even after 7 years, but they all have expiration dates in recent years. It's like that with most consumable items as well as some cleaning products.
Be wise and use your own judgment. The only things I know of that deteriorate are condensed milk, which is probably still healthy to eat after the expiration date but generally has darkened in color (looking disgusting) and diet sodas, which do lose their sweet taste when far beyond the expiration date. The sweetener breaks down.
People are obsessed with these dates today and most of them are truly meaningless. I work in a related sales industry and all the sales reps laugh over the dates because they increase sales. If you notice, most of them are "best by" dates, not expiration dates. In many cases they are completely arbitrary with no meaning what-so-ever. I know people who will throw out a brownie mix because it expired a month or two prior. That's ridiculous. I've used them as long as seven months after the date and found that the leavening agents were still just fine. My biggest chuckle is sour cream. It's already sour! If it looks fine and hasn't separated it's perfectly healthy to use. Another good one is yogurt. It will keep for about a month after the date.
You have to use your own judgment on some of this. Years ago there were no expiration dates and we all survived just fine. Leftovers were routinely kept for a week and no one ever got sick. And remember... refrigerators weren't as accurate or well insulated back then.
Even things like prescription drugs are often fine several years later but you MUST talk to a pharmacist regarding using anything expired because some drugs do change their properties over time. Others are absolutely fine.
As far as the water is concerned... If it's stored out of direct sunlight in a cool place it would be good far, far, beyond the expiration date.
The only thing truly dangerous with bottled water is refilling a bottle without washing it. It's not the water or any bacteria in it that are the problem. It's the bacteria in our mouths that gets into the bottles.

water also expires, yes just water can somehow expire. I found a gallon of water with like an inch of dust I checked it and it expired in 2001. It was purchased in about 1995 or so but I dont really want to use it anymore because of the date. I guess somethings can just get into the container over time or its a company liability.

bottled water grows bacteria in it the longer it sits and after a while the bacteria content will be too much and it might not be good for you to drink it and will taste a little funny as well. BTW, you should'nt keep any container of water standing still either in your fridge or in your house for more than a couple of days either. It will go bad with bacteria growth. I assume the bottled water keeps longer than that though. I would guess they add some kind of preservative to keep it fresh more than two days.

It doesn't exactly expire, but after that date the water may not taste as good as when it was bottled

Nope, it does expires, like all food, pack or bottled, they give it a use by date, so that people would not keep it for too long, and i believe that its just a guideline for consumers. Just like the medicines or food or cosmetics.

if the water is stored for more than 24 hrs water gets contaminated due to bacteria growth. the plastic bottle starts emiting bad odour and the conditions becomes unhygenic.as all this is harmful bottled water is given expiry date.

it's not the water itself that expires but the plastic from the bottle, it can contaminate the water after long periods

so the store that is selling it will sell it sooner so it can stock more... i dont think water can expire its like a billion years old..

plastic out gasses, plus unless it is purified water there is bacteria in it,
if you refill water bottle over and over, you will start to see the slime building

If you open it it can grow mold and mildew.
