Well, none of us ever did because we would have had the hands cut off us (we never tested the threat for veracity) and we were told that snotters were full of germs and would make you ill. None of my children have ever done this either - but I don't think I have ever had to tell them not to. I don't believe all children do this.

I don't know why...

But about 2 weeks ago I was babysitting 2 boys in addition to my 3 kids. The boys are like my own, close to our family. Well I went to check on all the kids in the bedroom and noticed my son had a booger hanging down (he's two) so I went to go get a tissue and the phone rang and I forgot (oops) so about 40 seconds later my 5 yr old daughter comes out and says "Mommy K ate a booger!" so I went in there and asked K (friends 4 yr old son) "K, did you eat a booger?" and he says "Yes I did and it was yummy!" then I get a horrible thought and I say 'K... did you eat Drake's booger?" and he said yes! The child ate a booger that was not even his!!!

Lovely.

So maybe the answer is because they taste good? And not all kids do this, my daughter never did... that I know of.

Only children? Seriously I have heard that eating your bogies can boost your immune system through the body digesting all the grot up your nose!

Because all kids are manky. But very logical too. If it came directly out of them then surely it can't be so bad that it can't go straight back in. Don't think about this too hard though as it has very revolting consequences when applied to other areas of the body.

Children think it is fascinating. They realize they have a hole on their face and they figure out they can stick their finger in it. They think its cool. Then they get curious and stick the contents in their mouth. It is just something that they do b/c they can.

I don't know. My 5 year old son does that and I found a shirt I'm going to get him if I can find his size. Saw it on the internet it says "Boogers taste like Chicken". That would be a kodak moment.

I'd like to think it's because they don't know any better. At a young age children love to put just about everything in their mouths.

Not ALL children do it. I have 3 children and only my middle boy does it. He is almost 5. I think it more of a habit then any thing else.
If I see him do it I will tell him not to do it as it's dirty.

it is natures way of self boosting the immune system ,that is the reason why nasal mucus has a sweet /saline taste to it ,ear wax on the other hand doesnt taste pleasant therefore children will not eat it (they will of course try ,and discover its not palatable )
