Apparently this is an IQ test given to job applicants in Japan.
Everybody has to cross the river.

The following rules apply:

Only two persons on the raft at a time.
The father cannot stay with any of the daughters without their mother's presence.
The mother cannot stay with any of the sons without their father's presence.
The thief (striped shirt) cannot stay with any family member if the
policeman is not there.
Only the father, the mother and the policeman know how to operate the raft.

To start, click on the big blue circle on the right.

To move the people, click on them.

To move the raft, click on the pole on the opposite side of the river.

It is not an IQ test, it is a problem solving dilema! More commonly known as the hobbits and orcs, or missionaries and cannibals. It is a method of demonstrating errors people make when problem solving. When people problem solved they are distratced by their need to reach the goal - that is, to go forward. However with the hobbits and orc problem at stage 5 or 6 you need to take an extra hobbit back in order to solve the problem! This thus demonstrates that by a taking a step back the goal can still be acheived - not many people realise this though and get stuck.

This is a very old test of logistics.
The original was 'cannibals and hunters'
The cannibals weren't allowed to outnumber the hunters.
Once you have the trick it is quite straightforward.
