You control everything you do. You don't necessarily control what happens to you but you do control how you react to what happens.

even though it does not dismiss the power of destiny, this quote means that a person's free choice is dominant over his destiny.

However eventhough we make a lot of choices we are still not in control of our lives as their are many factors which influence what will happen .... possibly even destiny. like i got a degree as a teacher inorder to become one yet somehow despite everything i ended up a careworker for example.

When someone makes a decision he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision.

why does it have to be one or the other? I came to the conclusion, that fate is predetermined by your own free will.
by the very fact that you are who you are, you think the way you do, you act the way you act, so all of your actions are predetermined. but in every instantaneous moment, we freely choose our destiny. the actions you choose to take are predetermined by your own free will.
