I dont think he understands human language but he has connected "tuna & whiting" to getting treats...my cat runs around like that when i say "cat food" not because he knows the words but because he know he will get fed after I say that

They can't understand you, but they can read your body language and associate certain things with how you act. He more than likely knows where you keep the tuna and can tell when you are getting ready to give him some.

Cats have a limited vocabulary. They know certain words and tones of your voice.

Blah Blah Blah Blah TUNA Blah Blah Blah Blah.

My cats know the word TREATS because they love tooth cleaning treats.

Blah Blah Blah Blah TREATS Blah Blah Blah Blah.

Cats also know the sound of the can opener or the refrigerator door. Ours know we hide our treats in the refrigerator because they can get into any cupboard in the house.

I think with my cat and dogs it's more the tone I say these things and my actions I do. Like we know the sounds are animals make when their happy to see us, intruder on our property ,etc even though we don't actually understand their words.

I don't think he understands the words "tuna & whiting" he understands the sound of it and he knows when you say those words he knows he's going to get treats.

I think it's the same with their names...if I call my cats by their names they will come to me, but I don't think they know what their names are...again they know what their names sound like.

has any one ever thought of maybe animals do understand language my cat seems to understand when i ask Questions and tell her to show me. just because you don't speak the same language doesn't mean you can't comunicate. When your cat responds means you two are comunicating
