Yes, I started going to the nearest church of my denominational preference.
The important thing is to find a pastor, reverend, preacher, minister, etc. who educates you in the Word.

I was searching after I moved, too, so I know your plea! I found my former church home ( http://www.sbcoc.org ) when a good friend invited me to "experience" an awesome church after (this is key) I'd been PRAYING for a new church home for a while. The church I'd been attending for the last maybe 18 years was not feeding me at all, but the LORD was pulling and calling me higher.
After moving to Cleveland from Chicago, we visited many churches and from there we found a new church home, one with excellent teaching, and full worship, praise and a House of Prayer. THEN my husband couldn't play drums in the band so we went back to another church we'd visited. If my husband wasn't there, I wouldn't go, but it is a great congregation and fellowship. It doesn't FEED me that radical WORD, but I'm grateful for a double portion.
If you are like me and want a progressive, modern but still deeply rooted in the Word of God (Jesus) church, check here: http://www.streamingfaith.com - and watch some live services of churches in your area.
Godspeed on your search! What city are you in, I can perhaps help with a recommendation.

I wonder if you don't mean denomination.
If you do, this is what I did. I was raised Lutheran, but didn't go to church much as I grew into adulthood.
In my early 20s, I started getting this feeling like there was more to life, like I was just floating. I found Eastern Orthodoxy. Orthodoxy answered all of my questions about God (ya know, why do bad things happen to good people, etc.). AND because it is the Church founded by the first disciples of Jesus. Catholics can make the same claim (sort of). There have been many dogmatic changes over the years in Catholicism.
I figured the Apostles were there; they would be the ones to ask how God (Jesus) would want his worshipers to act.
Feel free to e-mail me any questions.
If you meant which church (little 'c') you should attend, I am sorry for the long answer. Pray for guidance. Ask friends, family or just pick one in your denomination. Go, ask questions. Do you feel comfortable with how they execute their beliefs? Good, you've found your church.

Yes I do, I looked in the telephone book under churches and subtitle Non Denominational churches. You may have to try a few to find the one that's is right for you, but don't give up.

My church home is at the Abundant Life Christian fellowship in Mountain View http://www.alcf.net
I didn't "find" it because that is where God led me when I was first converted. Having said that, there are two sides of the coin to consider when looking for a church home.
On the one hand, I would look for a church with sound doctrine that is Christ centered and Spirit led, a church that wasn't handicapped by extreme denominational distortions of doctrine that separated it from the main stream of Christianity.
On the other hand, the Bible teaches that it is God who places each member of the body of Christ where He has gifted them to play a role. So praying for God to guide you to the particular congregation that He would have you to be a part of is essential to finding a church home.
1 Corinthians 12:7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good....11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. (12) For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. (13) For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--Jews or Greeks, slaves or free--and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
You can pray about it and ask for confirmation and visit various churches in your area. It could be that God will lead you directly to the assembly that it is in his will for you to join or it could be that He will test your faith and teach you during the process of searching for a church home.

My home is my church. Church means family, I don't have to go anywhere to worship God.

Search out a Bible-believing church that doesn't require useless rituals and sacraments. That's how I found it after I got saved. I go to First Assembly of God. No desire to become a member, just want to worship and praise our Lord in the presence of God's children.

I would check out www.lds.org
I am LDS and I love my chuch, they are truly helpful and do care. No one is judgemental and we try to follow Jesus Christ everyday, not just on a Sunday! Their are local missionaries in every city who can visit you and discuss the Bible with you, help you get baptised and help you feel that in our church you have family!

I used to say find one that preaches the bible alone without adding to or taking away from, problem is 99 per cent of them add and take away, so just pick one.
