I got my cat from the humane society 3 months ago. About 2 weeks after having her we took her to the vet for a cough, turns out she had a resperatory infection and tape worms. She was treated for both (a shot for the worms) and the cough went away. Lately I've noticed her eyes are running with clear liquid (it looks like tears) and then last night I found the 2 tape worms. She is an indoor 8 month old kitten with no contact with other animals...and shes been treated for fleas. Is it possible the tape worms never went away?

Chances are that there are still fleas in the house or on the cats bedding.
Cats get tape worms when they ingest the fleas during grooming.

As far as the eyes sounds like the URI could actually be something called Rhinotracitis also know as Feline Herpes.
It can lead to the URI's runny nose, runny eyes...the eyes may actually get red or pink...just like pink eye in a human.
The cat may also start to gag or cough like it's trying to get up a hairball.

The best advice I can give you is to make sure there are no fleas in the house or on the cats bedding.
Then take the cat back to the Vet get something like Frontline from the Vet for the fleas get the tape worm taken care of, but most importantly have him treat kitty for the URI again and ask about Feline Herpes.
Don't worry if kitty has Feline Herpes, they live long and happy lives.
We have four cats, two who have the Feline Herpes Virus.
They are 6 year old Sisters and one of them has only ever had one outbreak, the other has had two.
Once they have the virus they always have it, but they aren't always sick.

Good luck, I hope kitty gets well soon.

Yes--it is not only possible that the tape worms did not go away, they DID NOT. Getting rid of tape worms usually takes 2 to 3 times to thoroughly get rid of, as they are flat and break off in pieces. If there is just ONE remaining piece left inside the cat, it will grow a whole new worm. I am surprised that your vet did NOT tell you that you needed to bring her back in about 2 weeks for another check up. Call that vet's office. It sounds to me like the respiratory infection did not completely go away either. You can't be careful enough with a kitten. There are too many things she could have been exposed to while she was still in the litter with Mommy kitty and the rest of the kittens. I am also quite surprised that your humane society (was this actually The SPCA?--I don't think so--)I've NEVER heard of them adopting a kitten out who was not well at the time. But this kitty definitely needs to go back to the vet, like NOW. Good luck to you with her, and you just may want to look into finding a new vet.

Tape worms are spread by flea bites, if you have a flea problem it could easily get infected again.

Possible some fleas got in your house, got back on her after flea treatment and if she licked up a flea, then she could get the tapeworms again. So yes, she could have tapeworms again.
